The importance of the power of touch, massage and essential oils

Touch is hugely important to us.  The first thing you do when you bang your head or knee is rub it in a massage type fashion.  When a child hurts itself we hug and kiss them.  Touch is the bodies natural comforting mechanism, it relaxes us and makes us feel secure.
Psychologists have demonstrated that our perception of how much and how we are touched relates to how we value ourselves, it’s the essential nourishment for self-esteem. Patients with highly contagious conditions who are nursed in isolation and denied skin contact find this experience as distressing as the disease itself.

The Skin
The skin is our largest organ and it is absolutely packed with touch sensitive nerves.  The skin and what it senses has a great impact on the body.  Skin feels pressure, pain, pleasure, heat, cold and communicates to us about world around us.

Massage
Massage is a very ancient therapy, indeed in its most basic form it is probably as old as humanity itself.  However we know that massage has been practiced for thousands of years for the specific functions of reducing stress, healing illness and injury, gaining relief from pain and achieving a state of relaxation and well-being

An increasing number of large companies offer massage as an employee benefit because massage therapy increases worker morale and productivity and decreases sick time.  With all the benefits of massage therapy, it is no wonder the number of adults who are getting massages has nearly tripled in the last 15 years.  Today people from all walks of life are benefiting from massage.

Essential Oils
Oils are widly used in massage, they allow the masseur to work on the skin with out friction, and, when natural vegetable oils are used they also nourish and enhance the skin itself.  Essential oils are concentrated oils from natures larder.  Different oils effect us in different ways. Each oil features its own distinct qualities, aromas, and fragrances, and most are used in conjunction with others to create a specific result, such as soothing anxiety and stress, boosting our energy, easing nausea, or relieving cramps and much more.
The problem with essential oils is that you need to know what you are doing as poor blending can have a negative effect.

Massage, essential oils and you

Obviously a massage is a wonderful thing, but for many of us it is a treat that we cannot regularly afford.  However, Mil All Natural Balms have wonderful massage blends and bath oils which can be used at home to provide us with a great sense of well-being.  One example is,   Mil 'Suaimhneas' Stress Strangler which is  blend of sweet almond oil with Orange and Frankincense essential oils which is designed to be massaged into the shoulders ( by a spouse or friend) and/or be poured into your bath water.  The blend will help you relax and soothe away the stress of modern living.  The orange and frankincense also smell divine, while sweet almond oil will easily penetrate your skin leaving it enriched soft and supple.

So remember look after your yourself,  your well being is important. The Mil Team
